I only played on days when they had buildings that contributed to defense or attack. I managed to snag some carousels and globe fountains in the last one. In special events go for buildings that give you military power and ignore everything else. Build them up, that's where the power is. Contribute to other people's zeus statues and cathedral of Aachen and galatea tower to win blueprints and after you build them put all your forge points into them for a long time, zeus first. Use all your forge points on great buildings. I never figured out a good defense for a mostly rogue army. They'll have a good chance of killing at least some of their army and making it way less profitable to attack you. If they use all artillery, then change your defending army to mostly mounted archers, if you're still at a lower level. I was getting plundered by the same two people, minutes apart, every single day, I think it was one person with two accounts, I disconnected my whole city by removing the roads that touch the town hall, and took a break for a week, after I reconnected they never came back. I keep my houses disconnected, because not having roads between houses gives me more space to build, I get all the coins I need from special buildings and GBs and motivating, so I don't really need the houses connected, the population still counts, and there's less to plunder. I set an alarm and collect everything every 24 hours, I even have my special buildings on that schedule.
